I'll be honest with you:

 

Getting to this point wasn't easy

 

It took me years to figure out I was in perimenopause. I trained as a Naturopathic Doctor and even after years of Naturopathic Medical school it took me a while to recognize what was happening to me.   I had my daughter when I was 39 and I blamed my fatigue, weight gain and irritability on post pregnancy. But the truth was I was 40 and starting peri-menopause. 

 

To be honest I also felt too tired and worn out to even do anything about it. 🙅‍♀️

 

👉One major event made me decide that I could not go on this way. I had a major gall bladder attack (did you know hormonal imbalance can cause that?) and while I was sitting in the hospital I remember thinking that I could not keep going on this way. I wanted and needed to be there for my kids and my family and that if I kept doing what I was doing my quality of life was going to be affected.🎉🙏

 

I was burnt out, exhausted, overweight and right then decided that something needed to change!

I was embarrassed that I was in this state. I was so great at taking care of every-one else - my kids, my husband, my patients but always put myself last.

What happened next?

 

I started to see more and more patients walking through my door with the same complaints that I had and I wanted to scream "I know what you mean..."

I realized 2 things:

 

This phase of life (the perimenopause and menopause phase) is not talked about as often as it should be. We prepare our kids for puberty but no-one prepares women for the phases of perimenopause and menopause! 😭

 
Most women are also burnt out and exhausted from all the hats they wear - being a mom, partner, their career etc. that they need some-one to tell them what to do.. a guide and a roadmap to get to where they want to be and a community for support.

 

So I tried:

 

  • Eating better (but anything that involved too much work was not sustainable).  Plus this didin't seem to help those late night cravings.
  • Exercising more (but I just felt more exhausted) 
  • I tried a bunch of supplements (and I got tired of taking stuff and wasn't really sure if anything was really helping) 

 

I told myself: 

There must be an easier way to get out of the hormone chaos and be in a place where I feel vibrant, full of energy and where I was making positive steps to a healthy future!

 

Then it hit me:

 

I was so focused on the weight I was not addressing the cause! The moment that I accepted that I was in perimenopause and that I needed to work on my hormones and the factors that control hormones was a game changer.

 

And this time, I stopped to look at the whole picture and to really do the work:...

  • I addressed my gut health and got rid of my foods sensitivities and bloating
  • I got serious about creating balance and implementing stress management

  • I stopped looking at calories and looked for nutrients
  • I spent time to understand where my hormones were at and used herbs / plant based foods to create balance
